Royals Celebrate Year of the Goat
The Royals District experienced a slice of Vietnamese culture at the Tet Festival with more than 5,000 people coming down to Wanneroo Showgrounds. The Vietnamese community is a key demographic for the Royals District with 5,000 Vietnamese residing in the Royals District in particular the suburbs of Ballajura, Beechboro, Dianella, Maylands and Morley.
Royals Districts Program Coordinator, Scott Jones with the backing of West Australian Football Commission (WAFC) staff delivered a suite of coaching drills to kids, aged 5 to 12, utilising the West Coast Eagles handball and WAFC speed kick stations. The 2015 Tet Festival was an exciting first step for the Royals District as it seeks to increase the profile of AFL in the Vietnamese community.
The Vietnamese Association of WA, which is a strategic partner of the East Perth District Football Development Council (EPDFDC), coordinates the Tet Festival to celebrate Vietnamese Lunar New Year. The Tet Festival is highlighted by a kaleidoscope of different cultural activities including Vietnamese cuisine, fireworks, performances and stalls.
